  Robert Kaufmann was a bigamist. He was already married to Anne Sigalet and had 2 children prior to marrying Betty. Kaufmann was originally born in England but emigrated to Canada when he was 14. He was a Canadian soldier who met Betty when he was stationed at Deepcut Barracks towards the end of WW2. He left Betty with her young child and was registered back in Canada toward the end of 1945.
